Teaching Philosophy
My hope is that students in my classes will grow in their love for the Word and their world; that they will begin to understand that their worship of God, the shaping of their worldview, and the fleshing out of their faith in daily life are all intrinsically connected to their answer to the question posed by Steven Garber: "What am I learning to love?" In my mind this goes a long way in dissolving the unnecessary division we have created between academic and spiritual growth. A genuinely biblical definition of knowledge has to address questions of action and responsibility.
Background
Cal has been a professor at Briercrest College since 1986. In addition to his teaching responsibilities he has served in a variety of roles including, among others, Men's Volleyball Coach, Youth Quake Director, College Chaplain, Imprint Director, Dean of Faculty, and Associate Dean of the College. He enjoys the Arts and has been a potter for over 25 years. He is also an ordained Anglican priest who serves as an associate in his local parish in Moose Jaw. He is married to Tracy and they have three adult children.
